Transformation Day 2012: Update for 11/07/11

public domain image of a butterflyAlthough yesterday marked the end of the 15th week into my Transformation Day 2012 challenge, I actually feel more like I’ve finished my first week.  There were lots of new changes last week, and they were all good!

First, I’ll cover the important part.  I lost 2.6 pounds last week which puts me at 255.8 pounds.  This means I’ve lost 23 pounds in 15 weeks, and I couldn’t be more thrilled! I feel like I’m finally finding “what works for me”, but I’m certainly going to reserve judgement ’til I have a few more weeks under my belt.

Last week, I’d been contemplating a new plan.  I decided that calories are a little more important than I’d been making them, and I’d decided that I HAD to start eating more veggies.  My goals:

  • eat around 2100 calories per day (200 calories more than the number of calories it takes to keep my body alive if I do nothing more than lay in my bed)
  • eat 20-25g of fiber from veggies each day
  • focus on achieving a ratio of 60-65% of my calories from fat, 10% of my calories from carbs, and 25-30% of my calories from protein
  • significantly reduce my consumption of processed meat like bacon and sausage

So far, results have been good.  Although my eating has become still more expensive (because of the large amounts of veggies), I’m hoping it’ll be worth it.

I’m also hoping that with this new approach, I’ll be able to make progress that’ll get me back off blood pressure meds.  My blood pressure has seemed too low, but my irregular heartbeat is much better, and I haven’t noticed any abnormal swelling like I had before I got on the blood pressure meds.  It’s certainly not ideal from a preparedness perspective, but part of this Transformation Day 2012 challenge is about making positive changes that’ll make my life better even if nothing “goes bad”.  I certainly feel like I’m succeeding there.

Hopefully by next week’s update, I’ll have some data under my belt that’ll help me make an educated guess.  Am I on the right path? Will I need to try something else? I’m committed to 4 weeks of consistent eating that meets my new goals before I decide to try something different.  Here’s to progress! Here’s to me claiming my liberty!
